Joseph is employed as a Teamster for an Express Company while William as a Brakeman for the Rail Road.

The 1940 Federal Census for McKeesport, Allegheny Co., PA, District 2-282, sheet 9B, dated April 10, 1940 records Joseph W. Shidel (48 - PA) with wife Marie (45 - PA) and their sons Michael (17) and Edward (16) living at 532 Locust Street. Joseph has completed 4 years of high school and is employed as a Senior Clerk for the W. P. A. and is earning $984 working for 44 weeks during the last year. Marie has completed 2 years of high school.
