(June 1866 - VA/NC/NC) Griggs with children Mattie F. (Oct 1892 - VA), Bettie S. (Feb 1894 - VA), and Flora (Sept 1896 - VA). James is working as a Tobacco Picker and has been married to Sarah for 12 years. They have had 5 children of whom 3 are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for Danville, Virginia, District 16, page 26B, dated April 22, 1910 records James A. (48 - VA/VA/VA) and Sarah J. (42 - NC/NC/NC) Griggs with children Mattie F. (Oct 1892 - VA), Flora J. (11 - VA), Helen M. (8 - VA), and Jeanette (5 - VA). James is working as a House Carpenter and has been married to Sarah for 20 years. They have had 7 children of whom 4 are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Danville, Virginia, District 33, page 101A, dated February 12, 1920 records the widow Sarah Griggs (53 - NC/NC/NC) with children Helen Griggs (18 - VA) and Jeanette Griggs (15 - VA) living at 743 Wilson Street. Sarah has no work but Helen is working as an Operator at the Overall Factory. Also in the household is married daughter, Flora Winn (21) and her husband Jim Winn (21). Jim is employed as a weaver at the Cottn Mill. In addition, Sarah's widowed mother, Martha Lovelace (84) is living there.
