Lewis T. Winslow

  General Notes:

The 1860 Federal Census for Michigan, Van Buren Co., Antwerp Township records Lewis T. (33-NY) and Martha (25-NY) Winslow with children Hardin (7-Michigan), Hellen (5-Michigan), Mary (3-Michigan), and John (2/12-Michigan). Lewis has real estate valued at $2,500 and personal property at $500. Lewis and Martha appear to have passed away sometime in the 1860s because only their children's names appear in later census records. Son John no longer appears, however, census records as well as a History of Van Buren County Book written around 1910 relate of a son, Warren T. Winslow, born ca 1860.

The 1870 Federal Census for South Haven P.O., Town of Deerfield, Van Buren Co., Michigan records Charles (57 - Michigan) and Martha J. (38 - NY) Stoddard with children Helen Stoddard [this is actually Hellen Winslow] (15), Mary Winslow (12), and Warren Winslow (10). Also in the household are children Francis Stoddard (14 - NY) and Emma Stoddard (11 - NY). The family is living next door to John A. Hunt and family whose son, Charles, is the future husband of Helen Winslow. The Winslow children's mother has married Charles Stoddard and the Stoddard children, Francis and Emma, are apparently from a previous marriage for Charles.

The 1880 Federal Census for Covert Township, Van Buren Co., Michigan, District 210, page 400A records siblings Mary (21) and Warren (20) Winslow in the home of their brother, Hardin Winslow (27 - Mich/NY/NY) and his wife Almira C. Winslow (21 - Mich/NY/NY). Also in the household is Hardin's widowed mother, Martha Stoddard (49 - NY/VT/Canada), and her son, Millard Stoddard (5 - Michigan/Mass/Michigan) [listed as 1/2 brother to Hardin]. They are living next door to the John A. Hunt family. John Hunt's son Charles recently married Hardin Winslow's sister, Helen.

Lewis married Martha J. Gilbert circa 1852 in Michigan. (Martha J. Gilbert was born circa 1834 in New York and died after 1880 in Covert Township, Van Buren Co., Michigan.)
