The 1870 Federal Census for Marion Township, Owen Co., Indiana, page 289B records Simon Burger (21) living with his parents Samuel (49) and Rachael (48) Burger and siblings Noah (24), Phebe (19), Elizabeth (17), Annanias (14), Martha (11), Cornelius (9), and Amos (4). Several pages over on page 284A are John (18 - Ohio), Amanda (16 - Ohio), and Francis (11 - Indiana) Hostetter. John will marry Phebe Burger and Amanda will marry Simon Burger. Samuel Burger is a farmer with real estate valued at $14,000 and a personal estate valued at $1,200.

The 1880 Federal Census for Marion Township, Owen Co., Indiana, District 255, page 331B records Samuel (59) and Rachael (58) Burger with sons Ananies (25), Cornealous (19), and Amos (19) and daughter Martha (21). Simon and Amanda have married and are living in Jefferson Township, Owen Co., District 256, page 348A: Simon (31 - Ohio) and Amanda (26 - Ohio) Burger with children Clarence (6 - Indiana), Lydia B. (4 - Indiana), Mary J. (2 - Indiana), and Emma (May 1880 - Indiana). Simon's sister, Phebe, married and remained near her parents in Marion Township, District 255, page 337A: John (29) and Phebe (29) Hachsteller (sic) with children Sarah (5) and Samuel (1).

The 1900 Federal Census for Marion Township, Owen Co., Indiana, District 115 records Simon (May 1849 - Ohio) and Manda (Jan 1853 - Ohio) Burger with children William (Oct 1881), Nancy (Jan 1884), Rosa (Nov 1889), John (March 1892), Ross (Feb 1894), and Kenneth (Aug 1900). Next door is Samuel J. (July 1821 - Ohio/PA/?) and Rachel (Feb 1822 - Ohio/PA/NJ) and their grandson Samuel Hochteller [son of Phebe Burger and John Hochteller] (July 1878). Samuel and Rachel have been married for 52 years and have had 10 children of which 8 are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for Posey Township, Clay Co., Indiana, District 19 records Samuel (60 - Ohio) and Amanda (56 - Ohio) Burger with children John (18 - Indiana), Ross (16 - Indiana), and Clara (11 - Indiana). Samuel and Amanda have been married for 37 years and have had 11 children of which 9 are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Benton Harbor, Berrien Co., Michigan, District 73 records Simon (70 - Ohio/Ohio/Ohio) and Amanda (65 - Ohio/Ohio/PA) Burger with children John (27 - Indiana), Ross (25 - Indiana), and Kenneth (20 - Indiana).

Simon married Amanda Hochstettler on 9 Mar 1873 in Owen Co., Ohio. (Amanda Hochstettler was born in Jan 1853 in Ohio and died after 1920 in Benton Harbor, Berrien Co., Michigan.)
