When Lucy Jane DAVIS was born on January 15, 1871, in Fluvanna County, Virginia, her father, Issac, was 30 and her mother, Sarah, was 32. She married John Franklin PROFFITT on January 21, 1886. They had 10 children in 21 years. She died in July 1911 in Fluvanna County, Virginia, at the age of 40.

(March 1856 - VA/VA/VA) and Lucy Jane (Jan 1871 - VA/VA/VA) Proffitt with their children Ida W. (Jan 1887), Luther M. (Feb 1889), John F. Jr. (Aug 1891), Ellie Lee (Dec 1893), and Libbie M. (Aug 1897). John and Lucy have been married for 14 years and have had 6 children of whom 5 are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for Fayetteville, Fayette Co., West Virginia, District 76, page 258A taken April 29, 1910 records John F. (54 - VA/VA/VA) and Lucy (38 - VA/VA/VA) Proffitt with their children Moaten (21 - VA), Frank (18 - VA), Ella (16 - VA), Livvie (13 - VA), Branch (9 - VA), Maude (6 - WV), Lucy (4 - WV), and Elsie (2 - WV) living along Arbuckle Road. John is working as a Caol Miner and has been married to Lucy to 14 years. They have had 10 children of whom 9 are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Palmyra, Fluvanna Co., Virginia, District 96, page 79A taken January 14, 1920 records the widower John F. Proffitt (63 - VA/VA/VA) with his daughter Elsie Proffitt (12 - VA) Farmong along Three Chopped Road.
