bullet  General Notes:

The 1850 Federal Census for Rye Township, Perry Co., Pennsylvania, page 292(691)A records Henry (43 - PA) and Anna M. (42 - PA) Sailer (sic) and children Elizabeth (20 - PA), Mary C. (19 - PA), Jacob (16 - PA), Nancy (13), Reuban [Seiler] (12 - PA), and John (8 - PA). Henry is a Tailor.

See general notes on his son, Reuben, for 1860 census facts.

The 1870 Federal Census for Rye Township, Perry Co., Pennsylvania, page 233A records Henry (62 - PA) and Mary (63 - PA) Seiler. Also in the household are Catherine Hipple (38) with children Jacob Hipple (14), Anna Hipple (8), and Emma Hipple (3). Catherine Hipple is possibly the daughter of Henry & Anna Seiler and Jacob Hipple is possibly Jacob Sonder listed in the 1860 census living with Henry and Anna Seiler ... possible grand child ... and Jacob is also listed in 1880 living with Henry and Anna Seiler. Anna & Emma might be the Catherine's children. It is of interest that one can find the William and Elizabeth Hipple family in Rye Township in 1860 [William (53), Elizabeth (52), Catherine (25), Joshua (19), Ruben (17), Jacob (15), Leah (13), Hiran (9), Rebecca (9), and Timothy (6)] and then follow various family members in later census records ... neither William (born 1806) nor Elizabeth (born 1807) are found in 1870 ... sons Reuben (born 1842), Hiram (1851), and Timothy (born 1853) are living in Rye in 1870 without parents ... Jacob is listed [with an incorrect age] with Catherine Hipple along with siblings Anna and Emma [see abvove].

Timothy is also listed in a 1890 Civil War Veterans Schedule living in Maryville, Perry Co., PA. He served in Company E of the 173rd PA Infantry with an unlisted rank serving from Oct 23, 1862 to to Aug 17, 1863. He was but 9 or 10 years old when he joined and most likely was a drummer boy or such. Timothy is listed as having heart desease, however, he can be followed throught the 1930 census remaining in the area.

The 1880 Federal Census for Rye Township, Perry Co., Pennsylvania, District 124, page 164B, dated June 18, 1880 records Henry (72 - PA/PA/PA) and Annie (71 - PA/PA/PA) Seiler. Also in the household are grandchildren Emma Hipple (12) and Jacob Sonder (23).

WILLIAM HENRY SEILER, one of the prosperous men of Silver Spring township, Cumberland county, was born about a mile from Hogestown, Aug. 30, 1854.
Henry Seiler, his paternal grandfather, the first ancestor of whom there is any definite record, was also a resident of Silver Spring township, and lived about four miles northeast of Hogestown. He was a tailor by trade, and a very excellent man in every respect, hardworking and thrifty. His wife, Catherine Fireoverd, was a descendant of one of the early settlers of the county. They were the parents of twelve children. Simon Peter Seiler, son of Henry and father of William Henry, was born in Silver Spring township, Aug. 4, 1825. He followed the occupation of blacksmithing from the time he was nineteen years of age until about six weeks prior to his death. He married Mary Ann Fink, who was born Nov. 18, 1830, daughter of William and Mary (Lutz) Fink, residents of the same township, but formerly of Lancaster county.
