bullet  General Notes:

The 1850 Federal Census for Mississippi, Lafayette Co., page 229B records Robert (26 - NC/Farmer) living in the home of Augustus P. (22 - NC) and Rebecca C. (21 - NC) Smith. Nearby is Wm Webb (62 - NC) with wife Elizabeth (56 - NC) and children John T. (20 - NC), Wm J. (18 - NC), Susan E. (14 - NC), and Thos W. (13 - Tenn). William has real estate valued at $10,000. Family records indicate that William is Robert's uncle.

The 1860 Federal Census for Mississippi, Lafayette Co., Paris P.O., page 133 records Robt (36 - NC) and wife Elizabeth (33 - NC) Webb and children Ann (8 - Tenn), Waugh (6 - Mississippi), Robert (4 - Mississippi), and William (2 - Mississippi). Also in the household is M. S. Webb (20 - Mississippi). Robert has real estate valued at $20,000 and personal property at $40,000. His occupation is listed as Farmer.
The next family listed in the census record is William (73 - NC) and Elizabeth (67 - NC) Webb. This appears to be Robert's Uncle as is recorded in many Webb Family Histories, however, Mary Blanche Blackwell definitely describes her "Great Uncle Robert" so perhaps Robert went to Tennessee/Mississippi with is Uncle William. Also in the household of William Webb is Thomas Webb (22 - Tennessee). William has real estate valued at $36,000 and personal property at $98,550. His occupation is listed as Farmer. These families had moved from North Carolina to Tennessee sometime in the mid 1830s then on to Mississippi where they became very prosperous. The 1850 census records youngest son Thomas as born in Tennessee ca 1837 while all others are born in North Carolina. Family records indicate Robert Clark Webb as a son of James (Alexander) Webb. As described above, there is a Robert C. Webb living with/near William Webb in 1850 and in 1860. This Robert C. Webb found in the census records written here, fits the description made by grand niece Mary Blanche Blackwell (see notes for Mary Blanche Blackwell).

The 1870 Federal Census for Township 8, Lafayette Co., Mississippi, Oxford P.O., page 502A records R. C. Webb (46 - NC) and wife E. C. Webb (43 - NC) and children A. D. (18 - Tenn), Wm (16 - Mississippi), R. A. (13 - Mississippi), S. (8 - Mississippi), and J. E. (2 - Mississippi). Robert has real estate valued at $10,000 and personal property at $5,000. His occupation is listed as Farmer.

The 1880 Federal Census for Davidson Co., Tennessee, The 18th District, ED#77, page 281B records Robert C. (55 - NC) and Susan E. (45 - NC) Webb with children Samuel (18 - Mississippi), Leonidas (15 - Mississippi), Jesse E. (12 - Mississippi), Mary B. [Mary Blanche ... see research notes on John Pomphrette Blackwell Sr. for references to this daughter, Blanch Webb] (9 - Mississippi), and Sue (2 - Tennessee). Also in the household is stepson William N. Green (19 - Mississippi/VA/NC). Robert is a wholesale grocer. This is a second marriage for Susan E. Webb.

The 1900 Federal Census for Williamson Co., Tennessee, Civil District 9, District 117, page 117A records Robert C. Webb (Aug 1824 - Farmer) with wife Susan E. Webb (Aug 1833) and children Samuel (March 1862) and Mary B. [Blanche] (Feb 1871). Robert and Susan have been married 25 years with 2 children. Of course, both Samuel and Mary Blanche are older than 25 years ... so this is a 2nd marriage for both and Susan had 2 children with her former husband.

Robert was born 20 Aug 1824 in Granville Co NC and died 24 Jul 1901 in Franklin Co., TN.

Robert and Susan are no longer listed in the 1910 census in Tennessee, however, their son, Samuel Webb, is listed and has now married and Mary Blanche has moved to Chicago with her mother ... see general notes on Mary Blanche Webb. The 1910 Federal Census for Franklin, Williamson Co., Tennessee, District 148 records Samuel Webb (48) married 7 years to Graham G. (40) with a son, Samuel G. Webb (6). Also in the household is mother-in-law Adelaine German (Gernon?) (61), and brothers-in-law Joe J. Green (41) and Richard (32) and Horace (28) German. Samuel and Graham remain in Franklin Town, Williamson Co., Tennessee through 1920.

Sometime in the 1920s, Samuel and Graham Webb with their son Samuel move to Pinellas Co., Florida with Sam's brother, Leonidas Webb, and his family to own and operate a Citrus Farm. The 1930 Federal Census for Florida, Pinellas Co., Precinct 19, District 55 records Samuel (68) and Graham (59) Webb with son Samuel G. (26) living next door to Leon (64) and Maud (60) Webb and son James B. (24) on Sunset Point Road.

bullet  Research Notes:

Robert Clark Webb was born in NC. Moved to College Hill, MS in 1840. Built a home called "Walnut Cottage" near Oxford MS. He was a planter there until 1871. He then moved to Nashville and went into wholesale Grocery business with his brother, William Henry Webb. He was a member of Presbyterian church.
His wife, Elizabeth, was born 5 Dec1826 in Fayette TN and died 1 Feb 1873 in Nashville, Shelby Co TN. Ellizabeth was the grandaughter of William Eaton, "famous in early state and Granvile Co. history." (Leonidas says: William Eaton and Ann P Dortch--"the orphan child of William E Dortch and Ann P Cobb"!! Had four brothers -- William Baskerville Dortch a distinguished lawyer who died at Somerville TN leaving one son Joe Higginson Dortch. Robert, died at our house in College Hill MS, leaving three sons -- Alex M., William E and Johnathon B, of whom the first two are now dead; Cornelius Noah and Charles Eaton who died in infancy.)
Robert married Elizabeth Dortch on 1 May 1851 in LaGrange, TN by Rev Robert Taylor. After Elizabeth's death he remarried to Susan Edmonson Green, a cousin and widow (of Dr W. R. Green, captain in the confederate army). He moved from Oxford, MS to Nashville, TN with his wife and young children ... went into the grocery business with two partners: Webb, Cheek and Neal. The business prospered and he bought a house in Franklin, TN, 20 miles south of Nashville.
