The 1850 Federal Census for Baltimore, Maryland, Ward 14, page 435B records James G. W. Brunner (21-carpenter), living with his father, Andrew Brunner (45-Segar[Cigar] Factor[Factory]). Also in the household is Magdeline T. (19), Andrew B. (15-carpenter), and Emily L. (8) Brunner.

A Maryland Marriages Index from ancestry.com lists the marriage of Andrew Brunner to Elizabeth Ann Bixler on June 5, 1826 in Baltimore Co, Maryland. Elizabeth must have died before 1850 because she is not listed in the 1850 census.
Son William T. Brunner (b 1827) becomes a Harbor Master in Baltimore. Son Andrew B. Brunner entered the service as Captain Company B, 2nd Maryland Infantry of the Union Army on June 18, 1861. He was promoted Major on September 22, 1862 and resigned February 16, 1863 on account of injuries received in service. Andrew's pension application of Oct. 21, 1863 records him as an invalid. His widow, Mary E. Brunner, applies on Mar. 16, 1864. By 1870, Mary E. Brunner marries Amos P. Paine (1870 and Payne in 1880). Kate (13) and Samuel (10) are living with them in Fall Church, Va. in 1870.
