Marshall P. Law enlisted as a Lieutenant 2nd Class on June 22, 1861 in Company F, 42nd Infantry Regiment Virginia known as the Leatherwood Fencibles. He is on the rolls as of October 31, 1861 but he is listed as died of disease on December 10, 1861 in Warm Springs, VA.
The 1870 Federal Census for Leatherwood, Henry Co., VA, Martinsville P. O., page 69A, dated July 19, 1870 records Lucy J. (42 - VA) Law with children Mary A. (19), Sarah E. (19), James D. (13), and July (sic) F. (11).
Marshall married Lucy J. Gilbert on 7 Aug 1848 in Franklin Co., VA. (Lucy J. Gilbert was born circa 1828 in Virginia and died after 1870 in Leatherwood, Henry Co., Virginia.)
