ATHENS, Tenn. : Laura M. Fagg Bartlett, 85, of Athens, Tenn., died Friday (May 2, 2008) at Athens Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fagg; parents, Thurman Hetzler and Nellie E. Knoblaugh Hetzler; brother, Thurman Jr.; sister, Edith; and stepchildren, Robert Jr. and Sandy H.

She was a mother, friend, and animal lover. She spent most of her life in the Marietta area where she was active in the community, well known and highly regarded. She spent the last several years in Athens, Tenn., where she lived a quiet, private life with her furry critters. She was born in central Ohio and attended college in the Dayton area. Her occupations included purchasing agent for the U.S. Government during World War II, real estate sales in Ohio, wife, mother, homemaker, farmer, and store owner and operator. She retired in the 1980s, and enjoyed traveling and entertaining.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Al Davila of Tellico Plains, Tenn.; two sons, Steve Fox of Ocala, Fla., and Richard Weimer of Corpus Christi, Texas; very special beloved friend and former spouse, Bobby Bartlett of Marietta; stepchild, Carol Lodej of Texas; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no formal visitation. Private graveside services were held Saturday at Living Waters Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the donor?s local animal rescue, animal shelter, or humane society in her memory.

Arrangements were handled by Myers Funeral Home, Tellico Plains, Tenn.


The 1930 Federal Census for Clinton, Shelby Co., Ohio, District 1 records Laura M. Hetzler (8) with her parents Thurman (41) and Nellie E. (35) Hetzler and siblings Edith L. (5) and Thurman B. Jr. (2). WWI draft records indicates that Thurman was born in Piqua, Miami Co., Ohio

Laura married Robert L. Fagg, son of Frank Gardner Fagg and Bessie Margaret Clatty. (Robert L. Fagg was born on 22 Oct 1919 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio and died on 1 Jun 1974 in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio.)
