(14), Mary L. (9), and Sophia M. (1). Jacob is a Laborer.

The 1860 Federal Census for Philadelphia, PA, Ward 18 (Southwest Division), page 453A records Eliza Hamel (14) living with her parents Jacob (52) and Elizabeth (42) Hamel and siblings James (21 - NJ), Mary (19 - PA), Sophia (11 - PA), Amanda (8 - PA), Magdaline (6 - PA), and Charles (2 - PA). Jacob is a Miller and Elizabeth is a Laundress.

By 1870 Jacob has died: The 1870 Federal Census for Philadelphia, PA, Ward 18, District 53, page 453A records Elisabeth Hamil (sic) (53 - PA) with children Magdalene (16 - PA) and Charles (12 - PA). Elizabeth is a Laundress while Magdalene works in a Shoe Store. Next door is son-in-law George Thorp (29) and his wife Mary S. [Hamel] Thorp (29) and children Ella (8) and Georgiana (5).
