Kathryn Erdos, 96, entered into rest March 31, 2009, at Rest Haven Nursing Center in York. She was the wife of the late Henry Erdos.
Kathryn was born on May 7, 1912, in Lancaster County. She was the daughter of the late John and Edna Todd.
She is survived by a daughter, Norma Bernstein of York; a son, Robert Erdos and his wife, Erda of York; a brother, Chester Todd of Lancaster; and seven grandchildren, Bill Bernstein and his wife, Cass of Mill Valley, Calif., Cathy Crosky and her husband, Robert of Williamstown, Mass., Lisa Stark and her husband, Jayson of Newtown, Pa., David Bernstein and his wife, Jill of York, Karen Erdos of Newton, Mass., Gail Erdos of Belmont, Mass., and Michael Erdos and his wife, Diana of Philadelphia. Kathryn is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was a special mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who devoted her entire life to her family. She was renowned as a gourmet cook. She was famous for her Friday night dinners that brought her family together for memorable evenings of magical cooking and hours of warm conversation. Those dinners were a highlight in the life of the Erdos and Bernstein families, and attracted family members from near and far who looked forward to each dinner and will recall them fondly for the rest of their lives. Kathryn was an exceptionally generous and selfless person. She took extraordinary joy in making other people happy and she was supportive of many local organizations and causes.
She was a member of Temple Beth Israel for 60 years and a member of the York Jewish Community Center. She grew up in Lancaster County and moved to York in 1932. She loved opera, classical, and traditional jazz music. She and Henry also traveled the world, from Europe to Israel to the North Pole. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Temple Beth Israel, 2090 Hollywood Drive, York.
Burial will be at South Hills Cemetery.
