The 1860 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, Mt. Nebo P. O., page 507A records John (48 - PA) and Frances (49 - PA) Armstrong with children Hugh (26), Henry (24), and Ann (21). John is a farmer with real estate valued at $10,000 and a personal estate at $2,000. [Henry was killed at Gettysburg, Co. E, 1st Regt. PA, Rev. - 6/14/1836 - 7/3/1863, 27y19d]

The 1880 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 169, page 396A records Jhn (69 - PA) and Fannie (70 - PA) with their grand daughter Alice Fulton (18). John is a retired farmer. Next door is John & Fannie Armstrong's son, Hugh Armstrong (46 - PA/PA/PA) with his wife Amanda (23 - PA/PA/PA) and children Henry (4), Charles (3), and Ella (Feb 1880). Also in this household is a nephew, Henry S. Fulton (15) [brother of Alice]. John is a retired farmer while his son, Hugh, is a farmer.
