bullet  General Notes:

The 1850 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, records Hugh (36 - PA) and Agnes (36 - PA) O'Nail with children Sine (9), Margaret Jane (4). Hugh is a Collier with real estate valued at $1,200.

The 1860 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, Rawlinsville P. O., page 496A records Hugh (47 - PA) and Elizabeth [Isabella?] (34 - PA) O'Nail with children Francina (20), Margaret J. (14), Charles O. (2), and John A. (3/12). Also in the household is a "Farm Hand" James O'Nail (20). Hugh is a farmer with real estate valued at $6,000 and a personal estate at $700.

These 3 census records seem to indicate that Hugh O'Nail was married first to Agnes and then to Isabella Armstrong ... note the age difference between Margaret and Charles in the 1860 census above.

The 1870 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, Bethesda P. O., page 12A records Hugh (55 - PA) and Isabella (39 - PA) O'Nail with children Francina (28), Margaret (21), Charles (12), John (10), William (8), Ida (5), and Alice (2). Hugh is an Inn Keeper with real estate valued at $6,000 and a personal estate at $800. Also in the household is a John Appleton (68) who works in a shoe shop.

The 1880 Federal Census for Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA, District 153, page 102B, dated June 6, 1880 records the widow Isabelle Oneal (sic) (51 - PA/PA/PA) with children Charles Oneal (21), Henry Oneal (16), Ida Oneal (13), and Alice Oneal (12) living on South Prince Street. Isabell is Keeping House, Charles is working as a Bottlemaker, Henry is working in a Cork Factory, and Ida works in a Cotton Mill.

The 1900 Federal Census for Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA, Ward 4, District 51, page 15A, dated June 5, 1900 records the widow Isabelle O'neil (sic) (May 1832 - PA/PA/PA) with children Henry O'Neil (Feb 1864) and Ida O'Neil (July 1867) living at 507 Prince Street. Neither Isabell nor Ida report employment; however, Henry is a Cork Cutter. Isabella reports beong married for 43 years (with a line through the number) and having had 7 children of whom 3 are still living. Isabelle owns her home.

Henry ONeil is listed in the 1910 Lancaster Census living at the same 1900 address, 507 South Prince Street; however, he is listed as a Lodger. Since Isabella was listed in 1900 as the owner of her home, perhaps, Henry is "renting" out the home in 1900. He is still working at the Cork Factory. Isabella is not listed.

See general notes on her father, Hugh Armstrong, for a Biographical Sketch from: History of Martic Township from History of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches published in 1883.
