The 1870 Federal Census for Franklin Depot Township, Southampton Co., VA, Jerusalem P. O., page 208A, dated September 5, 1870, records Mary Daughtrey (55 - VA) with her children Ed Daughtrey (26), Sallie [Sarah] Daughtrey (25), Martha Daughtrey (20), and Abraham Daughtrey (20). Mary "Keeps House" with real estate valued at $180 and personal property at $0. Ed is a farm laborer. Nearby (page 207A) is Mary's brother-in-law, Edwin Daughtrey, and his family. Two doors away is Mary's married daughter, Mary A. Crumpler (32) with her husband Joshua Crumpler (49) and their children Isaac (18), Sallie (17), Crawford (15), Lula (4), and Indiana (2). Actually, Joshua Crumpler was first married to Susan Scoggins on Jan 16, 1843 in Southampton Co. Joshua and Susan had 5 children before Susan passed away ca 1861. Joshua married Mary Ann Daughtrey ca 1864.

The 1880 Federal Census for Franklin District, Southampton Co., VA, District 103, page 251A, dated June 21, 1880, records the widow M. [Mary] B. Daughtrey (67 - VA) with her twins Martha (25) and Abraham (25). Also in the household is the widow M. A. Crumpler (42) [Mary's daughter, Mary Ann Daughtrey] with her daughters D. A. Crumpler (13) and Indiana Crumpler (12). Nearby are Mary's brother-in-law's [Edwin Daughtrey] children W. E. [William E.] Daughtrey (43) with his wife B. A. Daughtrey (30) and their children Temperance (4), Minnie (1), and Maggie (1) as well as M. M. [Mildred Daughtrey] Cross (42) and her husband Josiah Cross (46) and their son Edward Cross (10).
