Obituary for Esther Joyner Atkins, mother of William Archer Atkins:
COURTLAND - Esther Joyner Atkins, 81, of Route 1, Courtland, died Friday, Jan. 14.
A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church and its Story Bible Class and Elizabeth Edwards Circle.
Survived by three daughters, Shelva A. Edwards of Franklin; Betty A. Hawkins of Bedford, and Dorothy A. Turner of Suffolk; five sons, William A. Atkins of Richmond, James T. Atkins of Ashville, N.C., John W. Atkins of Franklin, Edgar A. Atkins of Courtland, and George H. Atkins of Suffolk; a sister, Carrie J. Byrum of Portsmouth; four brothers, Charles Joyner and Arthur Joyner, both of Suffolk, Jim Joyner of North Carolina, and Jackson Joyner of Windsor; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Edwin David Atkins.
Graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland by the Rev. Gary Powell. Memorials to Courtland Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
Family will be at 229 Crescent Drive, Franklin.
