The 1940 Federal Census for Lancaster City, Ward 6, PA, District 36-72, page 1269A, dated April 26, 1940 records Wilda M. Steffy Jr. (9 - PA) living with her parents Witmer (42 - PA) and Wilda Mae (41 - PA) Steffy and siblings Samuel W. (18), Ezra E. (17), David L. (16), Paul W. (14), Mary M. (7), Shirly S. (4), and Martha (2) living at 538 N. Christian Street.

Deceased Name: SAMUEL STEFFY, 73, RESTAURANT COOK
Samuel Witmer Steffy, 73, of 223 E. Walnut St., Ephrata, formerly of Lancaster, died at home Monday morning after a short illness.
He was the husband of Edith L. Melhorn Steffy, who died in 1979. Born in East Petersburg, he was a son of the late Witmer and Wilda Foust Steffy.
He most recently was employed in the shipping department of the former Dutchmaid Co. of Ephrata. He previously worked for many years as a short-order cook at Cloister Restaurant in Ephrata.
Steffy was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Metzler's Mennonite Church in West Earl Township.
Surviving are two daughters, Robin E., wife of Steve Kitowski of Tracy, Minn., and Sheila A. Rudy of Reamstown; four grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley M. Bradley and Wilda, wife of John Varner, both of Columbia, and Mary, wife of Raymond Rynier, and Martha Brown, both of Lancaster; and two brothers, David of Gap and Paul of Lancaster.

Note: Wilda Steffy's mother is Wilda Steffy [married name] and her father is Witmer Steffy. [Wilda was first married to Gilbert Leroy Asper. Gilbert Died from the Flu epedemic in 1917.]
Wilda Steffy, the mother, died on 9-17-1966 and Witmer Steffy, the father, died 12-1972 in Lancaster Co.

Wilda was my Grandmother. She's buried in the Millerville, Pa.
Mennonite Cemetery beside her first husband, Gilbert Leroy Asper. Gilbert died during the flu epidemic of 1917/18. They had one child, Elizabeth Faust "Betts" Asper. Wilda remarried to my grandfather, Witmer Steffy. Wilda had 11 more children with Witmer: Samuel Witmer, David Leroy, Ezra Eugene (my father), Paul William, Unnamed infant son, Levi Andrew, James Franklin, Wilda Mae "Doll", Mary Magdalene, Shirley Marrietta, and Martha Sonja "Marcie". All are deceased except Paul, Doll, and Marcie.
Betts was born 01 Mar 1919 and died on 05 Feb 1993. She's also buried at the Millersville, Pa Mennonite Cemetery. Betts first married William Finnegar; they had 2 children, William W. "Butch" Finnegar and Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Finneger) Burrs
Don't know what happened to Bill. She later remarried Robert James "Bob" Stewart. I have a copy of her obit with a picture if you're interested. Also have obits for some of the others as well as other info. My mom was the geneaologist in the family, and I inherited all her material by default...nobody else wanted it or knew anything about it.

Martha S. Brown, 73, of Lancaster passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Witmer and Wilda Mae Faust Steffy. She was a laborer for Lancaster Laundry for 21 years before her retirement on April 9, 1997. She enjoyed playing bingo. She is survived by a friend, Betty J. Shank, Lancaster; one brother, Paul Steffy, Lititz and two sisters; Wilda M. (John) Varner, Mountville and Mary (Raymond) Rynier, Gordonville. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Ezra, David and Samuel Steffy and one sister, Shirley Bradley.
Private services will be held for the family. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P. O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. Arrangements by -Workman Funeral Homes, Inc. Mountville/Columbia.
