Son of Henry and Lucy Haley Vass: Grandson of Philip Vincent Vass, Jr. and Susannah Mead. Served in the CSA, Lt. Arty, Ellett's Co. as a Corp. in Crenshaw's Battery, enlisted March 14, 1862, served until the surrender. Henry and his brother's names [Joseph A. Vass, James Philip Vass and Thomas Jefferson Vass] are on the Hanover CSA War Memorial on the Hanover County Courthouse grounds.

1st Marriage: Lavinia Via in 1858 who died in 1861. Their daughter was born dead in 1859.
2nd Marriage: Mary "Mollie" Ann Lavinia Davis Jan 14, 1869:

Wife Mollie A. L. Vass is buried in Winns Baptist Church Cemetery in Hanover. The family believes Henry is buried in the family plot right in front of her.

The Religious Herald dated Sept. 10, 1896 reads:
"Vass- died on August 30, 1896 at his residence in Hanover County, Va.
Bro. HENRY VASS.
In the 64th year of his age. He was a beloved member of Winn's church and had been for a quarter of a century an humble, devout, and consistent Christian. The great congregation gathered at the funeral attested the esteem in which he was held. His patience during his long illness showed his submission and his trust in his Saviour. May God sustain his bereaved widow and sorrowing sons."
Henry died of "diabetes and heart trouble".

Henry married Mary Ann Lavinia Davis, daughter of John J. Davis and Mary Elizabeth Francis. (Mary Ann Lavinia Davis was born on 22 Nov 1845 in Hanover Co., VA, died on 24 Feb 1930 in Hanover Co., VA and was buried in Winns Baptist Church Cemetery, Elmont, Hanover Co., VA.)
