Robert Lee Howell
PORTSMOUTH - Robert Lee Howell, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Como, N.C., and was the son of the late Jake L. and Fannie Beale Howell. Mr. Howell was a retired supervisor from T.O. Williams Meat Packing Co. after more than 45 years of service. He was a long time Member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board of the church for more than 50 years and was honored with the title of Deacon "Emeritus". He also was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Howell for many years was a member of The Woodmen Of The World.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 68 years, Hazel Valeria Howell; three sons, Robert O. "Bob" Howell and wife, Carol, of Suffolk, Joseph E. "Joe" Howell and wife, Patricia Ann, of Palm Bay, Fla., and Donald L. "Don" Howell and wife, Betty W., of Madison Heights, Va.; one sister, Frances Daughtrey and husband, Hunter, of Suffolk; seven grandchildren, Michael S. Howell and wife, Brenda, Jeffrey L. Howell and wife, Patti, Brian J. Howell and wife, Cheri, Christopher L. Howell and wife, Nikki, Timothy L. Howell, Carrie H. Moore and husband, Mike, and Sarah J. Howell; nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday evening at the Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel of Sturtevant Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Port Norfolk Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of Bob Howell, 1209 Mill Lane Quarter, Suffolk, at other times.

Robert married Hazel Valeria. (Hazel Valeria was born on 17 Aug 1914 and died on 14 Oct 2006 in Suffolk City, [Nansemond Co., ] VA.)
