Obituary for Gladyce Mildred Ivers - Rapid City Journal - (Feb/18/2004)

STURGIS ? Gladyce Mildred Ivers, 89, Sturgis, died Friday, February 13, 2004, at the Sturgis Long Term Care Center.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel and Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 19, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bob Waite officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Rapid City.

Gladyce was born April 30, 1914, in Corson County near McIntosh, SD, to Axel and Gara (Hanson) Skotvold. She attended grade school in McIntosh and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1931. Gladyce married Vernon Eddy Ivers at Flasher, ND, on September 20, 1934. They started farming with Vernon's dad then moved to Mandan, ND, where Vernon worked at The Bank of North Dakota. In 1945, the couple owned and managed Ivers Red & White Grocery Store in Watauga, SD. In 1955, they moved to Belle Fourche, SD, where Vernon worked at the Department of Revenue and Gladyce started being very active in the community and St. James Lutheran Church and started her retail career.

In 1965, they moved to Rapid City, where she continued her community activities and retail career. After her retirement, Gladyce moved to Sturgis, where she was active in Grace Lutheran Church, GLCW, the Senior Citizens Center, and was involved with her pride and joy, her grand kids. Gladyce was a Standing Rock Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was the church organist in Belle Fourche.

Survivors include five sons, Kenneth Ivers and his wife, Pearl, Brookings, Roger Ivers and his wife, Donna, Sturgis, Vernon Ivers, Jr., and his special friend, Kathy Burkhart, Lead, Gary Ivers and his special friend, Nancy Ramesbothom, Rapid City, and Gordon Ivers and his wife, Jhane, San Antonio, TX; one sister, Violet Olsen, Bellevue, WA; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband, two brothers, Selmer Skotvold and Jalmer Skotvold, and three sisters, Alma Nelson, Cassie Cain, and Anna Cain, preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established.
