Edward Thomas Bryant is named in his father's will. He testifies on October 6, 1882 that he is 32 years old and a house carpenter who lives in Whaleyville. He claims the wood cut by Morris & Bruce now on the Wiggins Tract of land was cut on land owned by his sister, Mrs. Daughtrey [his sister is Missouri Bryant daughter of Mary Ann Scott who was married to Joshua Bryant ... after Joshua's death ca 1871, she married Joshua Doughtie, brother of Bolden R. Doughtie (see general notes on Joshua Doughtie ... where Edward T. Bryant is a thorn in the side of his mother's new marriage).

The 1880 Federal Census for Cypress Chapel, Nansemond Co., VA, District 53, page 69A, dated May 8, 1880 records Edward T. (30 - VA/VA/VA) and Mary A. (31 - VA/VA/VA) Bryant with children James H. (10), Sarah L. [Lena] (8), Rosa (5), Barsha A. (4), Benny (2), and Eddie (3/12). Edward is a Carpenter.

The 1900 Federal Census for Suffolk Town, Holyneck District, VA, District 29, page 168A, dated June 2, 1900 records Edward T. (Aug 1849 - VA/VA/VA) and Mary A. (June 1845 - VA/VA/VA) Bryant with children Benjamin I. March 1879), Edward T. (April 1881), Floyd B. (March 1882), William A. (July 1885), Robert L. (April 1887), and Rosa A. (Sept 1876) living at 15 Holiday Street. Edward is a Laborer at the Butter Factory and has been married to Mary for 30 years. They have had 9 children all of whom are still living. Also in the household is Edward's widowed mother, Mary A. Bryant (April 1825). Mary indicates she was married 59 years and has had 5 children of whom 3 are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for Suffolk (Independent City), VA, District 14, page 203A, dated May 11, 1910 records E. T. (60 - VA/VA/VA) and M. A. (54 - VA/VA/VA) Bryant with children Rosa M. (33) and E. T. Jr. (27) living at 703 Pearl Street. Edward is a House Carpenter.

Edward's wife is listed as a widow in the 1920 census ... see general notes on his wife.

Edward married Mary Alice Phelps on 27 Jan 1870 in Nansemond Co., VA. (Mary Alice Phelps was born circa 1849 in Virginia and died after 1920 in Suffolk City, [Nansemond Co., ] VA.)
