Esther S. Bates, 90, of Rest Haven, York, PA, also longtime resident of Reinholds, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 1, 2011. Born November 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elbina Ochs.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Simon C. Bates, son, Carl A. Bates, sister, Gladys Moffett, and brothers, William and Luther Ochs.

Esther is survived by her children, Doreen Meckley, wife of Fred Meckley, and Kent Bates, husband of Beverly Bates. Surviving also are grandchildren, Steven Brown and Christofer Bates; and great grandchildren, Cheyanne and Tristan Brown.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, and was a longtime member of Swamp United Church of Christ, Cocalico Senior Center, and longtime employee of Keystone Nitewear Company.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 7 PM, Wednesday, January 5, at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, with funeral services to follow at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Craig Snow officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
