The 1880 Federal Census for Carroll Township, Perry Co., PA, District 127, page 49A, dated June 7, 1880 records John Morison (sic) (1 - listed as daughter's son) in the home of John (48) and Mary (39) Sheriff. Also in the household are children Sarah (15), Andrew (13), William (11), Minnie (9), Martha (6), John A. (2), and Harvey E. (6/12). Next door is David McCalister (31) with his wife Maria (34) and children Anna M. (12), George (9), Franklin (8), Charles (6), David (3), and John (1). Next door to David is Mollie McCalister (61) with her son-in-law Heny L. Holmes (22) and his wife Anna C. [McCalister] (19).

The 1870 Federal Census for Carroll Township, Perry Co., PA, New Bloomfield P. O., page 21A, dated Aug 25, 1870 records John (36 - PA) and Mary C. (39) Sheriff with children Mary C. (8), Sarah E. (5), Andrew (4), and William (2). Next door are John's parents Andrew (70 - PA) and Catherine (69 - Maryland) Sheriff. John is a carpenter with real estate valued ta $450 and a personal estate valued at $200 while Andrew is a farmer with real estate valued ta $1,200 and a personal estate valued at $500.

John married Mary Jane circa 1851 in Pennsylvania. (Mary Jane was born on 2 May 1841 in Pennsylvania, died on 25 Jan 1913 in Carroll Township, Perry Co., PA and was buried in Young's United Methodist Church Yard in Perry Co., PA.)
