The July 24, 1959 Beckley Post-Herald (Beckley, WV) page 16 reports:
Dr. and Mrs. F. L. Banks, of 200 N. Kanawha St. were in Blacksburg, VA Wednesday to attend the funeral of his nephew, Robert W. Banks, who was drowned in Claytor Lake, VA, Monday.
Banks had been a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg and was employed at the Arsenal in Radford, VA. He drowned in an effort to save his son.
Surviving are his wife, Hope Minter Banks, his son, and a daughter, all of Blacksburg.
