Harold C. Herr, 87, of 665 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster and formerly of Kirkwood died at his home on Tuesday evening. Born in Colerain Twp., he was the son of the late Clinton S. and Katie Stoner Herr.

Harold graduated from Colerain School in 1934 and Quarryville High School in 1935. He was a Dairy Farmer and a pioneer of conservation farming in Colerain Township.

In 1972 Harold lost both of his legs in a farming accident and was highly respected for his accomplishments as a handicap farmer. Harold never considered himself handicapped, just challenged to find different ways of doing what needed to be done. He was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher and was active in the bus ministry. Also he served as a founding board member of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community also a founding board member and secretary of Youth For Christ in Lancaster.
Harold was a faithful Christian who lived his faith; he often spoke at local churches and Sunday schools and even served on 3 church boards in the Solanco area during his lifetime. Harold served as supervisor/secretary treasurer of Colerain Twp. for 18 years and later served on the twp. planning commission.

He was owner/partner of A.L. Herr & Bros., a Case, New Idea and Gehl farm equipment dealership in Quarryville that was started by his father and uncle in 1890 and ceased in 2001. He and his wife, Bonnie Wagner Herr celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 8th.

Surviving besides his wife are: a daughter, Joanne wife of Earle J. Hershey of Quarryville; three sons: Kenneth H., married to Deborah B. Herr, Quarryville, Karl W., married to Barbara M. Herr, Oxford and Steve P., married to Connie J. Herr, Quarryville; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICES: Saturday, October 9th at 10:30 a.m. from Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 1225 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville with Pastor David Martin officiating. Interment will be private in the Union Cemetery. VIEWING: at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:30. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Willow Valley Manor in the Jack Orr Room on Friday morning, October 8th at 11:00 with Chaplain Russell Frey officiating. Harold married Bonnie Fae Wagner, daughter of Judson Emory Wagner and Effie Dean Smith. (Bonnie Fae Wagner was born on 24 Aug 1918 in Watauga Co., North Carolina.)
