The 1900 Federal Census for St. Johns Township, Hertford Co., North Carolina, District 54, page 257A, dated June 9, 1900 records Norah Harrell (Sept 1894) living with her parents Elisha W. (Sept 1849 - NC/NC/NC) and Mary E. (Sept 1849 - NC/NC/NC) Harrell and siblings Elisa (Sept 1883), Jack (Aug 1886), Spurgen (Sept 1883), and Sada (Aug 1888). Elisha and Mary have been married for 23 years and have had 6 children all of whom are still living.

Obituary for Edna Doughtie Lewter - January 02, 2004
MURFREESBORO -- Edna Doughtie Lewter, 81, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern, N.C., surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Bertie County to the late Raleigh and Nora Doughtie of Murfreesboro and was the widow of John Lewter.

She was preceded in death by her sister Bernice and her brothers Edward, Dewey [James Dewey Doughtie], J.P., and Oliver (Preacher), and a step-son, Carlton Lewter.

She is survived by three daughters: Penny G. Lewter, of Raleigh, N.C., Pam L. Francis and husband Ron, of New Bern, N.C., Gail Lewter of Nashville, N.C.; one son, Steve Lewter and wife Diane, of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren: Kenny Lewter, Le High, Florida, Brad Lewter, Raleigh, N.C., Corey and Kevin Woodard, Nashville, N.C., Ronda Francis, New Bern, N.C. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Lynn L. Warren and husband Bob, Murfreesboro, N.C., Terry Lewter Warren and husband, Murfreesboro, N.C., John M. Sheets, Phoenix, Airzona, step great-grandchildren, and step great-great-grandchildren. "Aunt Edna" is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church, and a charter member of Murfreesboro Lioness Club. After years of working in the public she operated a "home" day care until her retirement in 1984.

A funeral service will be held at Murfreesboro Baptist Church, 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004, with Rev. Ken Compton officiating, burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, N.C. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, N.C. from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2004.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, The Lioness Club of Murfreesboro, Murfreesboro Baptist Church or Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, New Bern, N.C.

Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, N.C. is serving the Lewter Family.
