The 1850 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., VA, page 197B, dated Nov 5, 1850 records a Sarah E. Harrell (20 - Nansemond Co.) listed in a household as follows:
Abram Harrell (49), Esther Harrell (47), Robert F. Harrell (16), Dempsey Harrell (13), Edward B. Harrell (6), Sarah E. Harrell (20), and Margaret A. Gray (16). A near by household has a David Harrell (62 - Nansemond Co.) living with Nancy Harrell (35), Rebecca Harrell (7), Elizabeth Harrell (2), and Sarah Harrell (28). David is a Methodist Preacher. Since this Sarah Harrell is listed after all the other Harrell children, one might suggest that this Sarah E. Harrell is a daughter of this David Harrell (as indicated in the marriage record) and Abram is David's brother ... note that Virginia, Select Marriages, 1785-1940 referenced in the marriage notes lists David Harrell as Sarah's father.
