bullet  Research Notes:

In an email from John Richard Cope dated January 9, 2015:
Hello Bo:
My name is John Richard Cope, and I am in the process of completing a family history on the Mechems. I have a Doris Theresa Doughtie who was married to Joseph Seaman Lewis. In your history, you have John Fanning Doughtie and Teresa Vincenzia (Vincences) Martin whose daughter was married to a Lewis. She was married to Joseph Seaman Lewis, not Donald as you had indicated.

Doris is buried next to her husband Joseph Seaman Lewis in her family cemetery. My question is can you find any other information on her children and her family? Below is what have on them ... Joseph Seaman Lewis was adopted in to the MECHEM family.

Seaman Joseph (Joseph Seaman) Lewis, son of Helen Janet Francies and adopted son of James Mechem Lewis, born 12 Jun 1911, (Crafton) Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; died 3 Mar 1974, Havertown, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was married about 1940, Portsmouth, Portsmouth (Independent City), Virginia, to Doris Theresa Doughtie, daughter of John Fanning Doughtie and Teresa Vincenzia (Vincences) Martin, born 26 June 1919, Portsmouth, Portsmouth (Independent City), Virginia; died 18 Oct 1990, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. They had resided in Lower Merion, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and Havertown, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. They are buried in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, Portsmouth City, Virginia. He was a captain in the US Navy during World War II and Korea. Note: Joseph Seaman Lewis, Sr. was in command of two Destroyer war ships: USS Greene, as Lt. Commander, from May 1943 to Feb 1944, World War II and USS Turner III, as Commander from 6 Jul 1950 to 5 Dec 1951, Korean War.
Joseph Seaman Lewis, Sr. and Doris Theresa Doughtie had three children in their union:
1) Joseph Seaman Lewis, Jr.
2) Sharon Kay Lewis, born 8 Aug 1945;
married Frederick Paul Ricket
3) unknown Lewis
