Also in the household is Henry's father-in-law, Benjamin Bernard (68). The slave schedule for 1850 records Henry with 3 slaves while Benjamin has 1 slave.

The 1860 Federal Census for South Western District, Franklin Co., Virginia, page 97, dated August 10, 1860 records Henry S. Belcher (47 - VA) with his wife Sallie (48) and children Benj F. (23), Henry C. (21), Geo W. (19), Jos B. (17), Thomas A. (16), Francis (14), and Sarah V. (8). Also in the household is Henry's father-in-law, Benjamin Bernard (78). Henry is a farmer with real estate valued at $4,500 and a personal estate valued at $2,780 including 2 slaves.

The 1870 Federal Census for Snow Creek Township, Franklin Co., Virginia, Glade Hill P. O., page 470B, dated August 31, 1870 records Sallie Belcher (59) with children Thomas (26) and Franklin (23).
