Sally is named as Sally Gibson in her father's 1848 will and Sarah in the 1850 settlement of the Estate of her father, William.

Sally Gibson (60) is recorded in the 1850 Federal Census for Pittysvania Co., VA. She does not have a husband in the household but the following are living there: James Darnley (57), Matilda Gibson (28), Alfred Gibson (20), and Anderson Gibson (18). She is living next door to her brothers, William Adkins and Owen Adkins.

The 1840 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., VA records Sally Gibson living next to her father, William, and brothers Owen and Henry. The household contains 1 female (50 - 60) [Sally], 2 females (10-15), 1 female (5 - 10), 1 male (40 - 50), 1 male (10-15), 1 male (5 - 10). Next door is the John Gibson Jr. household containing 1 male (20 - 30), 1 male (<5), 1 male (5 - 10),1 female (20 - 30), 1 female (<5). This is most likely a son of Sally Adkins Gibson.

Interesting to note the 1830 Federal Census for Pittyslvania Co., VA: Head of household is listed as Sally Gipson (sic) which is next to her father William Sr. and brothers William Jr and Henry, - the household contains 1 female (40 - 50) [Sally], 2 females (10-15), 2 females (5 - 10), 1 female (<5), 1 male (40 - 50), 1 male (15 - 20), 1 male (10-15), 1 male (<5). This record implies that Sally's husband, Charles Gibson, has died; however, there is a male aged 40 - 50 living at the house.

The 1820 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., VA records Sally Gipson (sic) as Head of household living next to her father William Sr. - her household contains 1 female (26 - 54) [Sally], 2 females (<10), 1 male (10 - 16), and 3 males (<10). This record implies that Sally's husband, Charles Gibson, has died; however, the 1830 census listed above has several children under the age of 10 this implying Sally is still having children perhaps with a live in.
