1880 U.S. Census, North Carolina, Brunswick Co., Smithville Township, ED# 25, page 563 records Robert W. (6) as the son of John B. Davis (35) and Ann Eliza (36). John is a seaman (Sailor).

The 1900 Federal Census for Smithville Township, Southport, Brunswick Co., NC, Dist 18, page 252A, dated June 6, 1900 records Robert (July 1874 - NC/NC/NC) and Annie Ray (Sept 1872 - NC/NC/NC) Davis with daughter Catherine (June 1897). Robert and Annie Ray have been married for 3 years and have had 1 child.

1910 U.S. Census, North Carolina, Brunswick Co., Southport, Smithville Township, ED# 21, page 81A records Robert W. (34) and wife Minnie B. (29) Swain with children Catherine (12), Elizabeth (10), Minnie R. (1/12). Catherine and Elizabeth are children from Robert's first marriage.

The WWI Draft Registration Card for Robert William Davis records his date of birth as July 18, 1874. His nearest relative is Minnie B. Davis [wife] of South Port, NC. He is a lawyer and is of medium height and stout build with dark hair.

The 1930 Federal Census for Smithville Township, Southport, Brunswick Co., NC, Dist 7, page 30B, dated April 3, 1930 records Robert (54) and Minnie R. (42) Davis with children Minnie R. (20), Bobby (15). Robert is a lawyer in general practice and has been married to Minnie for 23 years. Also in the household is Robert's unmarried Aunt Elizabeth Mayer (75). They are living on Water Street [will become Bay Street] in Southport.
