The 1940 Federal Census for Buchanan, Botetourt Co., VA, District 123-9, page 99B, dated April 21, 1930 records Katherine M. Oyler (18 - WV) living with her parents Matthew S. (65 - WV/WV/WV) and Grace G. (57 - WV/WV/WV) and siblings Grace (23 - WV) and Geraldine (17 - WV) along Road 630. They own their farm valued at $1,500. Matthew has completed 7 years of schooling while Grace ahs completed 1 year of high school. Daughter Grace has completed 6 years of schooling, Katherine 4 years of high school, and Geraldine 3 years of high school.

Kathryn Oyler Dodd, 90, of Salem, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Dodd Sr. Her surviving family includes her sons, James P. Dodd Jr., of Buchanan, and Stephen L. Dodd, of Salem; daughters, Judy D. Mays, of Quinton, and Barbara Dodd Hall, of New Castle; grandchildren, Jacqueline C. Lee, of Provo, Utah, Brian D. Hall, of Salem, and Jonathan C. Mays, of Quinton; and great- grandchildren, Lauren and Spencer Lee, of Utah. A graveside service will be held noon Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Elder Charles Mays will officiate. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2728 Colonial Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24015. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.johnmoakey.com.
