Obituary for Myrtle Kendrick in the Bristol Harald Courier - (Jul/14/2009)
Myrtle Adkins Kendric, 97, formerly of 49 Milton Ave., Danville, Va., died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville, where she had been a resident for the past eight months. She had been in declining health for the past two years. Born Sept. 28, 1911, in the Callands community of Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Abe Adkins and Dolly Pearl Powell Adkins. She was married to James F. Kendrick, who died July 24, 1991. Mrs. Kendrick lived most of her life on Milton Avenue and was employed a number of years at Dan River Mills. She was a member of Southall Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Virginia Adkins, Effie Adkins and Elizabeth Gibson, and four brothers, Luther, James, Spencer and Elbert Adkins. She is survived by three daughters, Jean Kendrick Brown of Danville, Rita Kendrick Powers and husband Glenn of Roanoke, Va., and Edna Kendrick Blevins and husband Bill of Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Laythan James Kendrick of Danville, Douglas Wayne Kendrick and wife Brenda of Danville and Berkley Lindburg Kendrick of the residence; two sisters, Christine Taylor of Danville and Ruby Pembleton of Farmville, Va.; a brother, Gold "G.A." Adkins of Danville; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted from the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, Danville, Va., at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009, with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber officiating. Interment will follow in Schoolfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 14, 2009, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 49 Milton Ave., Danville, Va. Swicegood Funeral Home is serving the Kendrick family.
