Obituary
DANVILLE - Spencer Edward Adkins, 90, of 115 Coleman Street, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, after being in declining health for several months, and a resident of Riverside Health and Rehab for one week.

Born January 3, 1918, in the Museville area of Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late George Abe Adkins and Dolly Pearl Powell Adkins. On September 18, 1937, he married Belva Sloan Adkins, who predeceased him on November 3, 1991.

Mr. Adkins was a charter member and musician at Westover Baptist Church. He owned and operated Southeastern Aluminum Company until his retirement.

He is survived by one son, Eugene Adkins and his wife, Brenda, of Danville; and three daughters, Barbara Craig of Danville, Linda Hillard and her husband, Wayne of Nashville, TN, and Wanda A. Riddle and her husband, Mike, of Ponce Inlet, FL. He is also survived by a special friend, Brenda Corbin. Other survivors include one brother, Gold Adkins, of Danville and three sisters, Myrtle Kendrick and Christine Taylor of Danville and Ruby Pembleton of Jetersville, Va.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Luther Adkins, Elbert Adkins and James Adkins; and four sisters, Elizabeth Gibson, Virginia Adkins, Effie Adkins, and Ruth Adkins; and one son-in-law, Harry A. Craig Jr.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Westover Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
