Gold Alden "G.A." Adkins, Sr., 87, of 105 Dovie Court, died Wednesday, August 5, 2008 at Strafford Health Care Center. Born December 22, 1921, in Sandy Level, Virginia of the Museville Community of Pittsylvania County. He was the son of the late George Abe Adkins and Dolly Pearl Powell Adkins. He was married to Dorothy Marks Adkins.

G.A. lived his life in Danville and was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and also attended Westover Baptist Church. He worked for Slater System Food Products, ARA Services and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sandra Lee Henry and Pat Ann Adkins and husband Steve, of Danville; a son, Gold Alden Adkins, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Danville; three grandchildren, Larry Steven Adkins, II and wife Vanessa, of Raleigh, NC, Arey Deaton Adkins, of Danville and Gold Alden Adkins, III, of Danville; two sisters, Ruby Pembleton, of Jetersville, Virginia and Christine Taylor, of Danville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Luther Adkins, Elbert Adkins, James Adkins and Spencer Adkins and five sisters, Ruth Adkins, Virginia Adkins, Effie Adkins, Elizabeth Gibson and Myrtle Kendrick.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Westover Baptist Church, 5665 Riverside Drive, Danville, Virginia with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, with Military Honors by American Legion Dan River Post #1097. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Westover Baptist Church, located at 5665 Riverside Drive in Danville, Virginia and other times the family will be located at the home of his wife, Dorothy Adkins at Dovie Court.
