The 1930 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Virginia, District 11, page 275A, dated April 2, 1930 records Robert Lawrence (46 - VA/VA/VA) with his wife Hope (36 - VA/VA/VA) and children Henry (19), Daisy (17), Wade (16), Bell (10), Bettie (7), Robert D. (2 6/12), and Daniel (1 3/12).

Robert remarries soon after the death of his 1st wife: The 1940 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Virginia, District 112-7, page 124A, dated April 13, 1940 records Robert Lawrence (52 - VA) with his wife Sarah E. (58 - VA) and children Henry (29), Belle B. (20), Bettie W. (16), R. D. (13), and Daniel L. (11) living at No Number Bridge Street (next door to 611). Robert has completed 4 years of schooling and is employed as a Junk Dealer at a Garage earning $130 working 26 weeks during the last year. Henry has completed 5 years of schooling and is employed as an Attendant at a Gasoline Filling Station earning $800 working 40 weeks during the last year. Belle has completed 1 year of high school and is employed as a Seamstress at the Pants Factory earning $566 working 51 weeks during the last year.

The WWII Draft Registration Card (for men born on or after April 28, 1877 and on or before February 16, 1897) for Bob Lawrence dated April 27, 1942 lists his date of birth as September 10, 1888 in Sandy River [Pittsylvania Co.], VA. He is living with his wife, Mrs. Sarah E. Lawrence, at 243 Moss Street in Martinsville, VA. He is working for Virginia Mirror Company on South Moss Street and his physical description is 5' 10", 140 lbs with blue eyes, gray hair and light complexion.

As listed in various Martinsville City Directories, by 1947 Robert and Sarah move to 116 W Roanoke Street and his employer becomes Virginia Furniture Company with Robert & Sarah listed as late as 1951.

Robert married Lillian Hope Lawrence, daughter of Henry N. Lawrence and Elizabeth Jane Woodall, on 29 May 1910 in Henry Co., VA. (Lillian Hope Lawrence was born in Apr 1894 in Henry Co., VA and died in Jun 1934 in Martinsville, Henry Co, Virginia.)
