The 1860 Federal Census for the South Western District, Franklin Co., VA, page 155, dated Sept 18, 1860 records Ada F. Belcher (4 - VA) living with Celia Belcher (62 - VA) and Jane Belcher (36 - VA). Nearby is our own Benjamin F. Belcher (b 1817). Interesting that Ada's marriage license (see marriage notes) records Jane Belcher as her mother and Benjamin F. Belcher's wife is a Jane Belcher ... however, the Jane Belcher listed here might be Ada's actual mother. It appears that Ada's mother never married and the father is unknown. Jane's mother, Celcia, was married to a William Belcher; however, the relation to "our" Belchers is not known.

The 1850 Federal Census for Franklin Co., VA, page 171B, dated Nov 28, 1850 records Mary [Jane] Belcher (26) [indexed as Behelor] living with her family: Celia Belcher (48), Martha Belcher (25), Matilda E. Belcher (23), Louisa Belcher (22), Cicily Belcher (17), Lucinda Belcher (19), Sarah Belcher (17), William Belcher (14), and Julia F. Belcher (11). Nearby is Charles T. Hunt and family whose daughter, Jane, is married to Benjamin F. Belcher.
