The 1850 Federal Census for the Southern Division, Bedford Co., Virginia, page 275B / 244A, dated Oct 23, 1850 records Abraham Gross (25 - VA) with his mother, Margaret Gross (60 - VA) and brother, John Gross (22). Also in the household is George Gross (35 - VA). The Gross boys are laborers with real estate valued at $460.
Nearby is Lyda St. Clair (19) [soon to marry Abraham Gross] and her family: William St. Clair (49), Betsy St. Clair (48), Lucinda (26), Meddie (24), Joshua (16), William (14 ), Betsy (12), Oney (10), Rutha (8), and John (4). William is a farmer with real estate valued at $2,500.
