Thomas is listed in the will of his father, Burwell Hagood. By 1850, he is living in the southern district of Pittsylvania County, Va. with his wife Mary D. and child, Cornelia. They are living in the household of Simon and Nancy Neal, probably parents of Mary in that they continue to live there after Simon has died (as recorded by the 1860 census). In 1860, Nancy Neal (79) is still head the of household. Also in the household are Thomas (53), Mary D. (48), and Cornelia A. (18) Hagood as well as Martha (39) and Mary A. (12) Ivins, and Nancy (35), Augustine W. (7), Lacious (4), Sallie J. (2), and Elizabeth (25) Hagood. Nancy is the widow of Thomas' brother, John Hagood.
Thomas married Mary D. Neal, daughter of Simon Neal and Nancy Royster. (Mary D. Neal was born about 1812 and died after 1860 in Pittsylavania Co., VA..)
