General Notes:
Oliver Savage is living in Nansemond Co., Va. in the 1840, 1850, & 1860 Federal Census. The 1850 census, page 196B, shows a family without a wife and mother: Oliver P. Savage (41), Amanda E. E. (19), Robt R. (18), Parthena (16), Missouri O. (14), Laban T. (13), Cornelia F. (12), Martha C. (10), Willie Anna (8), Harriet J. (6), James O. (2). The 1860 census apparently shows a new wife, Elizabeth, who is the same age as Oliver's oldest daughter, Amanda. The new wife has two children by Oliver as recorded in the 1860 census. The family is listed on page 645 of the Upper Parish as: Oliver Savage (52), Elizabeth F. (29 - born in N.C.), Cornelia (21), Martha (19), Wiley Ann (17), James (12), John (3), and Theodosia (5/12). Oliver has real estate valued at $5,000 and personal property at $10,000 including 7 slaves.
The 1870 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Cypress Chapel, page 216 records Elizabeth F. Darden (37 - N.C.) living with an Edward B. Darden (22 - Virginia). Also in the household are John L. (13), Theodosia (10), Luther S. (6), and Elizabeth O. (4) Savage. Oliver apparently died around 1868 and Elizabeth either remarried or perhaps is living with a relative.
The 1880 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Cypress Chapel, District 63, page 58B confirms Elizabeth is married to Edward B. Darden. The census records Beverly Darden (32) and wife Elizabeth (48) with children John L. (23), Theodora (20), Luther (16), Elizabeth (14), Mattie (9), and Rosah (7) Darden. Only Mattie and Rorah are Darden children as the others are the children of Oliver P. Savage.
