Served in Company I of the 41st Virginia Infantry.
Cornelius enlisted in Company I, 41st Infantry Regiment Virginia on June 23, 1861. He was hospitalized on November 11, 1861 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, VA. He reenlisted in Company I, 41st Infantry Regiment Virginia March 10, 1862. On April 10, 1865 (Estimated day) he was captured and as a POW was confined on April 12, 1865 at Washington, DC. He took the Oath Allegiance on April 12, 1865 at Washington, DC.
The 1870 Federal Census for Cypress Chapel, Nansemond Co., Virginia, Suffolk P. O., page 205A, dated July 4, 1870 records Cornelias F. (31 - VA) and Mary (21 - VA) Savage with their daughter Effa [Eva?] Savage (1). Cornelias is a farmer with real estate valued at $1,200 and a personal estate valued at $ 290.
The 1880 Federal Census for Cypress Magisterial District, Nansemond Co., Virginia, District 53, page 62B, dated July 2, 1880 records Cornelius F. (40 - VA/VA/VA) and Mary Jennet (30 - VA/VA/VA) Savage with children Mary Eva (12), Thomas U. (8), Minnie P. (5), and David O. [Oliver] (1).
Cornelius married Mary Jennett Wright on 29 Apr 1867 in Nansemond Co. VA. (Mary Jennett Wright was born about 1849 in Virginia and died after 1880 in Nansemond Co., VA.)
