Biography from Biographical Annals of Lancaster County, PA indicate that Henry and Rebecca are living in of Lancaster, PA ca 1882. A possible record for them would be the 1880 Federal Census for Drumore Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 178, page 559A records W. H. (40) and J. R. (29) Marsh with a daughter M. J. Marsh (3). W. H. is a retail merchant. This is confirmed as the correct family by the 1900 census: The 1900 Federal Census for Lancaster City, Ward 7, Lancaster Co., PA, District 61, page 146A records Harry (Aug 1840) and Rebecca J. (Aug 1851) (indexed as Rihana J. Marsh at ancestry.com) Marsh with children J. Monica [Maurice] (April 1877), Salie M. (June 1879), and W. Edgar (Aug 1881) living at 33 Chester Street. Harry is a grocer who has been married to Rebecca for 24 years and has had 3 children.

Henry passes away in the first decade of the 20th century: The 1910 Federal Census for Lancaster City, Ward 7, Lancaster Co., PA, District 80, page 146A records the widow Jennie R. Marsh living with her son William E. [Edgar] Marsh (28) and his wife Ida C. (31) and their children Catherine E. (7) and Hilda (3) at 33 Chester Street (same as in 1900). William Edgar Marsh has taken over the family business and is the proprietor of a grocery store.

Apparently Rebecca passes away between 1910 and 1920 in that she is not with Edgar and family at 33 Chester Street: The 1920 Federal Census for Lancaster City, Ward 7, Lancaster Co., PA, District 68, page 16B records W. Edgar Marsh (35) with his wife Ida C. (42) and daughters Ethel C. (17) and Hilda (12). Edgar is still the owner/proprietor of a grocery store.



In November 2008 Wilma Fauth Jones sent the following copy from a book on the Alexander Family of Lancaster, PA published ca 1922:
Rebecca Jane Alexander. (John III. John II. James, John), was born August 12, 1850. She married J. Harry Marsh June 27, 1870. [The 1870 marriage date is probably in error in that the 1900 census indicates 1876. Also, this book records the date of birth for Rebecca's son, Maurice Marsh, as April 7, 1872 and the WWI Draft Registration records his date of birth as April 9, 1877 which is again consistent with the 1900 census recor.]

They lived in Lancaster City. Mr. Marsh was a merchant, keeping a General Merchandise Store successively at Bucks and at Mt. Nebo. About 1900 he moved to Lancaster City and entered the Grocery business which he followed until his death, September 23, 1909. His wife died December 23, 1919.
