bullet  General Notes:

Isaac served as a Captain in the 4th Battalion Reserves, CSA during The War Between the States. The obituary of his wife indicates he was known as a Colonel.

The 1850 Federal Census for the Southern District, Brunswick Co., VA records Isaac T. Britt (32) as head of house and his wife Martha A. Britt (35) with others including: Harriet E. Britt (33), Cornelia A. Britt (14), Lewis J. Britt (12), Martha J. Weaver (15), James W. Buford (10), Mary M. Manning (8), and overseer George Gray (21). One can make a reasonable conclusion from the census records that Cornelia and Lewis Britt were the children of Isaac's brother, Benjamin Britt. The 1840 census record shows 2 children under the age of 5, 1 male and 1 female, and the 1850 and later census records have no Benjamin and/or Hannah Britt.

The 1860 Federal Census for the St Andrews Parish, Brunswick Co., VA, Lawrenceville P. O. records Isaac T. Britt (42 - VA) as head of house and his wife Martha A. Britt (45 - VA) with others including: Isaac E. Britt (8), Mary H. Britt (48 - VA), Legrana Lanier (22) [overseer] and Amy Malone (20) [servant]. Isaac is a Farmer & Merchant with real estate valued at $17,000 and a personal estate valued at $18,000 including 12 slaves. Mary H. Britt has a personal estate valued at $8,400 including 1 slave.
Lewis J. Britt is not found in the census record, however, he is listed as the owner of 9 slaves ... perhaps that is where Mary Britt gets her high personal estate value ... he is listed next to her in the slave record. Careful examination of the slave schedule seems to describe the following possibility: The writing is hard to read but looks like it could be Ann Wortham's children - North Carolina - Mary H. Britt - Lewis J. Britt decd [deceased?]. Perhaps Mary is the daughter of Ann Wortham of NC and the widow of Lewis Britt or possibly the sister of Isaac Britt. That explains the $8,400 personal estate value. The number of slaves listed under the three mentioned people is 12.

The 1870 Federal Census for Totaro Township, Brunswick Co., VA records Isaac T. (52) and Martha A. (52) Britt with their son Isaac E. Britt (14). Isaac is a Farmer with real estate valued at $2,000 and a personal estate valued at $1,000

The 1880 Federal Census for Totaro Magisterial District, Brunswick Co., VA, District 28 records Isaac T. (62) and Martha A. (65) Britt with their son Isaac E. Britt (29). Isaac T. is a Farmer and Isaac E. is a School Teacher.
