The 1860 United States Federal Census for North East Ward, Lancaster City, PA (page 847B) records John Baker (33 - Clerk), James Baker (7), and Margaret Baker (18). The 1870 United States Federal Census for Lancaster City, Ward 1, PA (page 174) records John Baker (43-Recorder of Deeds), wife Elizabeth [Shirk] (40), son James (18) and daughter Annie M. (8). Also in the household are Maggie A. Baker (28), Lillie M. Baker (4), Mrs Susan Baker (72) and Annie M. Baker (34). These people are actually Susan Shirk and her daughter Anna Shirk and a grand daughter, Margaret [Pearson] Baker with her daughter Lillie [Mary Elizabeth Baker]. John Baker's wife, Elizabeth, is Anna's sister.
The 1880 Federal Census for Lancaster City, PA (ED#154, page 119B) records Susan Shirk (82 - PA/PA/PA) (82) living with daughter Annie M. Shirk (44 - PA/PA/PA) in the home of son-in-law John Baker (52 - PA/PA/PA) and his wife, Elizabeth [Shirk] Baker (49 - PA/PA/PA), and children Annie (18 - PA/PA/PA) and James Baker (27 - PA/PA/PA) at 519 West Chestnut Street. John and James are both Tobacconist.
