The 1870 Federal Census for Pottsville North West Ward, Schuylkill Co., Pennsylvania, page 299B, dated July 2, 1870 records Thomas Dougherty (2 - PA) living with his parents Thomas (45 - Maryland) and Amanda (30 - PA) Dougherty. Thomas is employed as a Restaurantist.

The 1880 Federal Census for Reading, Berks Co., PA, ED#56, page 357A, dated June 2, 1880 records Thomas Dougherty (12 - PA/PA/PA) as a step son living with his remarried mother, Amanda Horan (36 - PA/Germany/PA) and her husband John Horan (31 - PA/Ireland/Ireland). Also in the household is step daughter Ida Davis (with a line through Davis) (17 - PA/Wales/PA)

The 1891 Reading City Directory lists Thomas W. Doughtery, barber, h 1125 Muhlenberg ... interesting to note that the address is the same as the address for John A. Horan, his step father, and is just a few blocks within where the Joshua Hagen family is living. Joshua's daughter, Ella, will marry Thomas Dougherty in 1891.

(Oct 1892), Ruth H. (Jan 1897), Helen E. (Aug 1898), and Marion A. (Feb 1900) living at 404 East Ross Street. Thomas is listed as an Iron Molder whose parents are from Ireland. Thomas and Ella have been married for 9 years.

The wedding of Miss Ella B. Hagan to Thomas W. Dougherty was private, the ceremony being preformed by the Rev. F. K. Huntzinger, at his home, 136 South 4th. The couple were attended by Franklin Hill and Millie Madeira. An informal reception followed at 719 Cherry, where the couple will reside. Mr. Doughterty is a molder, formerly residing at 1211 Cotton, and the bride was, until recently a hat trimmer.
