bullet  General Notes:

The 1880 United States Federal Census, Borough of Coatesville, Chester Co., Pennsylvania (District 76, page 132A) records William Schneider (30 - Germany) wife Caroline (23 - Pennsylvania) and children William (7), Katie (5), and Freddie (3). This is the likely family of William Jr, married to Ella Rannels, but more research is needed. William is listed as working in the Round House as a boiler maker.

The 1900 Federal Census for Wilmington, New Castle Co., Delaware, Ward 10, District 43, page 64A records William (May 1850 - Germany) and Caroline (February 1857 - PA/Germany/Germany) Synder with children Katherine C. (Oct 1875), Frederick (Sept 1877), Caroline B. (Aug 1880), Myrtle R. (Aug 1882). William is a Boiler Maker. William and Caroline have been married 27 years with 5 children all of whom are still living. The children are employed as follows: Katherine-Milliness, Frederick-Telegraph Operator, Caroline-Sales Lady in a Dry Goods Store. William reports that he immigrated in 1870.

The 1910 Federal Census for Wilmington, New Castle Co., Delaware, Ward 10, District 61, page 21A/B records William (59 - Germany) and Caroline (52 - PA/Germany/Germany) Synder with daughter Myrtle (26) living at 1116 West Fourth Street. William and Caroline have been married 37 years with 5 children all of whom are still living. William reports that he immigrated in 1870. It is interesting that their name is spelled "Snyder" in that his son, William, signs his name "Snyder" on his WWI Draft Registration card but his wife, Ella Rannels Schneider, signs "Schneider" on her mother's widow's pension application in 1900.

By 1920 William has died and his wife, Caroline, and daughter, Myrtle, are living with another daughter, Katherine, and her family: The 1920 Federal Census for Westtown Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania (District 109, page 286A, dated January 2, 1920) records the widow Caroline Synder (61 - PA/Germany/Germany) with her daughter Myrtle R. Snyder (36 - PA/PA/PA) living in the home of Restore B. (39 - PA/PA/PA) and Katherine C. (40 - PA/Germany/PA) Smedley and their children Mary C. (10 - PA), Katherine C. (7 - PA), and Restore B. (5 - PA). Restore is farming along the Philadelphia and West Chester Pike.
