The 1880 Federal Census for Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 167, page 138B records William T. (34) and Elizabeth (34) Adkins with children Nannie (13), Corella (10), Ada (8), Delmore (6), and Census [Bruce] (4). Also in the household is sister-in-law Julia Hodges (21). William is a farmer but he can neither read nor write. Elizabeth indicates that she can read but can not write.
The 1900 Federal Census for Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 75, page 111B records Wm T. (May 1846) and Elisabeth F. (Feb 1846) with children Elonzo (June 1882), Gillie L. (Nov 1884), Lillie M. (May 1889), Moses D. (Dec 1890), and Odell (June 1876). Also in the household are grand children [Odell's children] Nellie (June 1898) and Claude (Oct 1899) Adkins. William and Elizabeth are listed as having been married for 33 years and as having had 11 children of which 7 are still living. Odell is listed as single having had 4 children of which 2 are still living. Next door is William's son, Bruce, and his family.
The 1910 Federal Census for Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 91, page 111B records William (64) and Elizabeth (64) with sons Lonnie (25) and Dollie (20). Also in the household is sister-in-law Julia Hodges (50). Next door is Wm's son, Bruce Adkins and his family.
William married Elizabeth Francis Hodges, daughter of Moses Hodges and Nancy Rigney, on 19 Jan 1867 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. (Elizabeth Francis Hodges was born on 27 Feb 1846 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. and died on 28 Nov 1938 in Pittsylvania Co, VA.) The cause of her death was Old Age.
