The 1900 Federal Census for Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 75, page 111B records Bruce (March 1878) and Parthenia (March 1877) Adkins with their son Rufus Adkins (Aug 1899). Bruce and Parthenia have been married for 2 years and have had one child. Also in the household is Bruce's aunt, Julia Adkins [actually Julia Hodges] (Dec 1853). They are living next door to Bruce's parents and family.

The 1910 Federal Census for Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 91, page 111B records Bruce W. Adkins (27) with his wife Thena (25) and children Rufus (9), Ora (6), William (3), and Laura (1). Bruce reports that he has been married just once for 10 years as has Thena; however, Thena indicates she has been married twice and has had 10 children of whom 4 are still living. Next door are Bruce's parents, William (64) and Elizabeth (64) Adkins with their sons Lonnie (25) and Dollie (20). Also in William's household is sister-in-law Julia Hodges (50).

The WWI Draft Registration from Pittsylvania Co., VA dated Sept 12, 1918 for Bruce Adkins records his date of birth as March 1875 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. He is employed by his brother, Lonnie Adkins in Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., VA. His wife is Thenia Adkins. He is medium height and build with blue eys and light hair. He makes a make where his signature is supposed to be.
