bullet  General Notes:

From http://cobbsasser.com/BroughtonJohnSarahPayne.html dated February 26, 2010:
John Broughton was the son of William & Elizabeth (Nicholson) Broughton and the grandson of Job & Mary "Molly" (Lewis) Broughton.
John's grandfather, Job Broughton, as well as his g-grandfather Willoughby and his granduncle Jesse, all served in the American Revolutionary War.
In 1775, Job volunteered for duty in Surrey Co, NC, for a tour of six weeks. The troop ultimately marched to Campbelltown settlement, in NC, on the Cape Fear River, where were they were stationed until they were discharged. During 1775, Job volunteered several times to go against the Tories, but the skirmishes were each of short duration, ie., less than two weeks.
On 27 Feb 1776, Job, along with his father and brother Jesse, fought in the Battle at Moores Creek Bridge, in Surrey Co, NC. In Feb 1777, he moved to Wilkes Co, GA, re-joined the service and was stationed at Heard's Fort (a stockade built by Stephen Heard, in about 1774, Washington Co, GA).
Job served until 1781, during which time he served as a Minuteman, as a spy for 18 months, and he participated in the Seige of Savannah.

The 1850 Federal Census for Knox Co., Kentucky, page 322A, dated July 29, 1850 records John (44 - KY) and Sarah (44 - KY) Broughton with children William 18 - KY), James (16 - KY), Eli (13 - KY), Henry (10 - KY), and Peter (8 - KY). John is a farmer and nothing listed for value of real estate.
