Isaac C. Losey

   Cause of his death was Typhoid Fever.

  General Notes:

An Isaac Losey family appears in the 1870 Federal Census for Augusta (Ward 1), Richmond Co., Georgia, Augusta P. O., page 26B/27A, dated June 17, 1870. This Isaac C. Losey is 52 (b. 1818 - Canada - Watchman) while his wife is listed as what appears to be Euninh age 59 (b. 1811 - Virginia). They have a daughter, Mary E. Losey, age 11 - Georgia. Emily Christine Daughtrey wrote that Appenine Daughtrey married an Isaac Losey. This 1870 Georgia couple fits the descriptions laid down by Emily for Appenine Daughtrey. The wife is the correct age to be the sister to Joshua and daughter of Richard. This Isaac and Euninh have a daughter named Mary E. age 11 (b. 1859 - Georgia). The Euninh name is legible and is perhaps something near the pronunciation and/or variation of the name Appenine. Another reason to believe this family is part of the named Daughtrey family of Virginia is that Richard Daughtrey (brother to Appenine and Joshua, son of Richard) is found to be living in Richmond Co., Georgia (as indicated in the 1850 Federal Census). Emily had written that this Richard Daughtrey II "went to Georgia in a covered wagon" and census records (1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880) confirm this family living there.

Additional evidence that Appenine Daughtrey went to Georgia includes the 1860 and 1880 census records:
The 1860 Federal Census for Richmond Co., Augusta (Ward 1), Georgia, enumerated by Isham Thompson where J. C. Lausey [Lozey] (42) is listed as a brick maker from Lower Canada and he is married to a Pennina (indexed as Pennesia) Lausey (47) from Virginia. Next door is Gemmima Dortery [Daughtrey] (54) with her children Jacob (28) and Sarah (20). Jacob is a Cabinet Maker while Sarah is a Dress Maker. Gemmima is Richard Daughtrey's widow and Pennina Lausey [Lozey] is Richard's sister.

It is of interest that the 1880 Federal Census for Richmond Co., Augusta, Georgia, District 97 records Isaac C. Losey (62 - Canada) with wife Margaret J. (42 - Virginia). Isaac is a Clerk in a Dry Goods Store living on Walker Street. This Margaret turns out to be Margaret Daughtrey, niece of Isaac's wife, Appenine Daughtrey, who had died in 1870.

In an email from Peggy Vaughan McKinney, March 13, 2006 (see notes on Sarah Rebecca Daughtrey):
Isaac C LOSEY and Margaret Jane DAUGHTREY were married on 16 May 1871 in IW Co, VA. Margaret Jane DAUGHTREY (daughter of Joshua Taylor DAUGHTREY and Priscilla HOLLAND) was born in 1836 in IW Co, VA.

Isaac C. LOSEY was born in 1818 in Canada. He appears in the census in 1860 in Richmond Co, GA. He also appears in the 1870 census in Richmond Co, GA as well as in the 1880 census in Richmond Co, GA. Isaac died on July 6, 1881 in Augusta, Richmond Co, GA. He was buried on July 7, 1881 in Magnolia Cem, Augusta, Richmond Co, GA.

Additional notes include: Isaac C. Losey applied for US Citizenship on April 5, 1859 in Augusta, GA - age 41 born Canada - arrived in US at NY in 1837.
Isaac C. LOSEY and Peninah (Appenine) DAUGHTREY were married. Peninah (Appenine) DAUGHTREY [daughter of Richard DAUGHTREY II and Appenine (Penelope) (Peninah) (Penny) MORGAN] was born in 1812 in Isle of Wight Co., VA. She died on July 15, 1870 in Augusta, Richmond Co, GA and is buried there in Magnolia Cemetery.
(Cemetery Records give the age at death as 65 yrs) She was buried on July 16, 1870 in Magnolia Cem, Augusta, Richmond Co, GA. Isaac C. LOSEY and Peninah (Appenine) DAUGHTREY had a daughter, Mary E. LOSEY, who is recorded in the 1870 census and was born ca 1860 in GA.

(Appenine Daughtrey was born circa 1812 in Isle of Wight Co., VA, died on 15 Jul 1870 in Augusta, Richmond Co., Georgia and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond Co, GA.) The cause of her death was Apoplexy.
